We have been having severe weather in this region and because of that we have not done a great deal on the allotment since Christmas. The above picture is of our back garden. The snow got thicker than this.
We have laid the base for the shed and that should be moved at the end of this month (February). I have planted two packets of broad beans and one packet has gone to Australia and the other packet has yielded me 6 plants. I decided that the weather conditions have just not been good enough to get anything going as it has also been below freezing for the majority of the time. I have bought yet another packet and started them off 2 weeks ago in pots in the consveratory. It is heated, but because we have been using the wood burner the heating hasn't been on much so I feel that conditions out there have been perfect for them. They are doing well, we have 36 plants this time to put out when we have the time.
We have moved the very substantial compost bin from our old site - this job took us an hour and it nearly killed the both of us, it was so heavy. Never mind, it is in place and looking splendid. All 5 of our raised beds are now on the new site. 4 are in place and 1 is not. The paths are laid and we are looking forward to better weather.
I have started an experiment I read about on the UK Allotment Forum. I have put some parsnip seeds between kitchen towel and made it wet and then put it in the airing cupboard to see if the seeds start to chit. They have been there for 2 days and nothing so far, but I will keep checking when I water them.
When the shed is in place, I will take my camera and post some piccies of the new plot.
