Been to the allotment today and I have managed to get another row of white onions in and 3 rows each of Peas (onward) and Runner Beans. I am not putting up any canes for the runners as one of the other allotment holders just lets his beans scramble along the ground and his beans are very tender and prolific. He says that by growing them this way they get shelter from the wind and as our site is very open (surrounded by farmland) it is very windy, even in the summer. This will be a trial to see how they do. If they are not any better than last year when I used canes, then I will go back to the old and trusted method next year. I will let you all know in a later blog.
Whilst I was weeding and sowing, Mick made a start on clearing the area for our shed. We have got 3 wheelbarrow loads of nice soil from one side that we have spread around the plot and we just have the second side to clear. I will be very pleased when the shed is there and we don't have to use our car as a mobile shed. We can then go up there on our bikes and save petrol and get some exercise into the bargin.
The weeds are still growing, despite my spending time before Easter weeding all the beds. Isn't it amazing where they come from. Someone on the site seems to throw potatoes around and they always seem to land on our plot. They are rotten and not very nice to remove. If I find out who is doing it I will have a word, I will not be afraid, I will do it. I will !!!
Well, that's all my ramblings for today. Tomorrow we intend to cut the grass on the plot and try to clear a bit more of the area for the shed, weather permitting.
Thanks for looking.
